What are soft skills?

Soft skills are those job skills related to the interpersonal, intelligence, and personality of the individual, tend to facilitate work, interact with others, and improve individual performance.

They allow distinguishing two people who, even having reached the same academic level and obtained identical results, behave differently through their skills and habits in the face of the functions they perform in the company.

Unlike hard skills, soft skills are more difficult to quantify and measure. They are usually obtained through experience and interpersonal development programs.

Importance of soft skills

The workday, with its constant challenges and problems, occupies several hours a day in people’s lives, so developing soft skills will bring many benefits. Among them:

  • Initiative: making decisions or acting without waiting for instructions to do so is a highly requested skill by organizations, because it reflects the character and potential of the person.
  • Adaptability: it is important to be able to adapt one’s behavior, providing the necessary versatility to situations that require it.
  • Productivity: one of the most important soft skills for a company is that its employees can achieve sustainable results, performing the requested tasks in the agreed time, in a more efficient way, and exceeding the minimum standards.
  • Autonomy: being independent, managing to make decisions, or take actions by their own means.
  • Emotional intelligence: developing EI allows us to recognize our emotions (positive and negative) while also identifying those of others. By detecting them, control can be exercised that regulates emotions in the social context.
  • Leadership: having people capable of encouraging, motivating, and influencing the behavior or way of thinking of work teams is key to the execution of a company’s projects.
  • Responsibility: the functions of the job must be assumed, complying with the obligations it demands. Likewise, responsibility also passes through the way we interact and communicate with others.
  • Willpower and effort: putting the best of each one in the task that is being carried out, to bring it to fruition and achieve the set result.
  • Organization: being organized allows you to systematically have an order that leads to a more structured personal and work life, promoting certain emotional stability.
  • Concentration: developing the ability to pay attention only to the task or activity that is being performed, increases personal productivity and improves the quality of results.
  • Problem-solving: daily there are endless business problems that must be addressed. In order to deal with them, you need several skills and thinking skills, many of which can be learned.
